Světluška (Lightning Bug) is a longstanding project of The Czech Radio Donation Fund that helps children and adults with visual impairment.
Světluška contributes to purchase of special tools such as “talking computers,” magnifiers, guide dogs and tandem bicycles.
Světluška also provides personal assistance to blind children in order to help them integrate into the mainstream schools and finance many projects helping blind and visually impaired people develop their talent and improve their abilities.
FoCZ is in its second year as a project partner, supporting it with technical and personal assistance.
This year, the Czech team also decided to participate personally in the 10th collection day for Světluška.
We coordinated the collection in our premises and two neighboring office building and ensured the necessary publicity before the event.
On D-day, eight volunteers dressed up as lightning-bugs for two hours and by selling small promotional gifts with the Světluška logo, collected valuable money.
As all the companies in the Prague River City (office block) had been informed by us in advance and appreciated our “Lightning Bug” volunteers, the collection was very successful. Moreover we all had lots of fun!
Further, we plan to organize a workshop for our employees, which will make them aware of how to interact with visually impaired and blind people, so that we can volunteer also in other activities organized by Světluška.
