I am a certified Ford MODAPTS trainer. I was asked to train the team at the Ford Pacheco Plant in Argentina. Although some engineers speak English, I was concerned that if we did not do the work in Spanish (their primary language) they would not fully comprehend the course. In 2012, I trained the teams at Ford Cuautitlan and Ford Hermosillo plants in Mexico. The training was done in English, using English materials and I found myself translating during the classes in order for the teams to fully understand what I was saying and what we were doing.
So, when asked to go to Argentina, I took the initiative to do a full and thorough translation of the English manual and materials into international Spanish to make sure the students could have access to all the information available. By doing this translation into international Spanish (avoiding local colloquial expressions), any Spanish speaking employee can benefit from it and completely understand it. Doing the translations took me three weeks, working evenings and weekends. I translated all the materials required: the manual, seven exercises and the exam.
The exams were sent to IMA (International MODAPTS Association), who are the only ones authorized to evaluate them. I am happy to say that all the students at the Ford Pacheco Plant passed the four hour exam.
IMA has authorized Ford to print the manuals in Spanish. Finally, it is the first time ever that any MODAPTS documentation (manual, exercises, exams) and training has been done in a language other than English.
NOTE: MODAPTS is a technique used by Ford engineers to both define the tasks to be performed and to determine the amount of output expected from a qualified operator.
