PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa - Installation work was planned at the Struandale Engine Plant in Port Elizabeth, South Africa for the Global Puma Engine program to improve the robustness of the equipment. The installation was originally planned for the first two weeks of December 2011, however due to production scheduling the work had to be postponed to occur during the week between Christmas and New Years.
Lennard Combs is a traveling employee who has been commuting between South Africa for two months at a time and back to the U.S. for two weeks. He has been doing this since Aug 2010.
Combs was scheduled to return back to the U.S. over the Christmas holiday to spend time with his family, however he knew how critical the installation was to the program and how important it was to have the equipment installed and back to a production level when production was scheduled to resume in January 2012.
Combs volunteered himself to sacrifice his time back home in the U.S. with his family to ensure that the installation went smoothly.
