MELBOURNE, Australia — The Geelong Community Affairs Committee has been very active again this year organising another fantastic calendar of fundraising events throughout 2013. Some of the highlights of their year include:
Ford Regatta – Fundraising for Kids Day Out
Ford in conjunction with the Geelong Yacht Club supported the annual Ford Regatta. The Yacht Club allocates one evening in February to enable employees to join them on an evening sail, raising money which helps the Committee fund the annual Kids Day Out Event. Employees are given the opportunity of joing the Yacht Club in an evening regatta held in Corio Bay, Geelong and are then encouraged to join Yacht Club members for dinner and a raffle. While raffle prizes are predominantly Ford merchandise, the Committee also receives sponsored prizes from the Yacht Club and local winery Six Foot Six, GMHBA Health Insurance and the Ford Cooperative Credit Union.
T4KP – Tour for Kids+
The Geelong Community Affairs Committee supports the Tour for Kids+ with proceeds from the event going toward the Kids+ organisation. The Tour for Kids+ is a cycling event which commences in Adelaide and ends in Geelong. Ford supported the event by providing a Ford Transit Van which was used as a support vehicle throughout the week-long ride. The ride covered 822 kms and this year 3 employees – Tony Peach, John Robertson and John Egglestone participated and secured 7 other non-Ford people to also complete the ride, raising $30,000.
Show and Shine – raises funds for the Kids Day Out Event
The annual Geelong Show and Shine was again held on 15th November. Employees and Car Clubs displayed a selection of classic and muscle cars and motorbikes. Total entrants were around 90 which was an outstanding amount. Ford V8 drivers Mark Winterbottom from Pepsi Max Racing and Dave Reynolds from Bottle O Racing attended the event, signing autographs and awarding prizes for best cars. The event raised $6,500, with all proceeds going toward the annual Kids Day Out.
Kids Day Out – Xmas for disabled and special needs children, held annually at Adventure Park
Kids Day Out is an annual event that the Committee has been supporting for 12 years. The event hosts 325 kids plus carers at Adventure Park on the Bellarine Peninsula. Children from three disabled schools – two in Geelong and one in Colac are invited to come along for some early Xmas fun. The event is also supported by the Kiwanis Club of Geelong who cook a mean BBQ as well as the Committee members and a variety of other Ford volunteers from the Geelong plant.
Gala Day – supporting the Geelong Hospital
The Geelong Hospital holds an annual Gala Day which includes a Parade throughout the streets of Geelong. Money raised from the event helps funding for the Geelong Hospital for vital equipment , maintenance and refurbishment of the facility. This year Ford, on behalf of the Committee, made a donation of $500 and entered 5 vehicles into the parade.
The Geelong Community Affairs Committee have been going further for the Geelong community for many years and continue to do a great job and we look forward to 2014 with anticipation.
