Ford Volunteers Go Further in Czech Republic

DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

PRAGUE, Czech Republic – A charity in the Czech Republic which helps visually impaired children and adults has been given a major boost by Ford.

Ford donated $5,000 to the Světluška (Firefly) project to help refurbish a centre which provides rehabilitation and training to people who have lost their sight through injury or illness, as well as people who have lost their jobs due to visual impairment.

The donation was during Ford Global Week of Caring and 22 volunteers from the FoCZ team spent two days helping to paint and decorate the centre.

“It was a great effort. We managed to decorate 17 rooms in two days and had a lot of fun,” said Ford HR supervisor Petra Hroudova. “The Ford/Ford Credit volunteers all dressed in blue Community help t-shirts featuring Ford & Svetluska logos.”

FoCZ is a keen supporter of the Světluška and has been providing technical and personal assistance to the project for the past three years. So far in 2013 Ford/Ford Credit employees have already participated in several Světluška charity events such as Run for Světluška (3 or 5 km night run), Café in the dark (café-bar in the blackness, where blind people serve guests) and others.

Money raised has helped Světluška purchase talking computers, magnifiers, guide dogs and tandem bicycles.  Světluška also provides personal assistance to blind children to help them integrate into mainstream schools.
