Ford Expat at JMC Wins 2012 “Lushan Friendship Award”

DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

NANCHANG, China — Praveen Cherian, chief engineer of the next Generation Transit Program at Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC), Ford Motor Company’s commercial vehicle investment in China, has been recognised for his commitment to Jiangxi province’s economic and social development.

Cherian was awarded the 2012 Lushan Friendship Award, the top award given by the provincial government to expatriates working in the eastern province.

Cherian was appointed by Ford in August 2010 to oversee the overall design and technology development of the new Transit.

Together with other JMC engineers, Cherian is dedicated to the project and is closely involved at every critical development stage. He and his team are committed to tackling every key technological challenge and make sure each major development is achieved on schedule with superior quality.

As a Ford international employee at JMC, Cherian’s contribution has been recognised and highly praised by senior executives from both companies that have formed a closer cooperative relationship in recent years.

Apart from his achievements at JMC, Cherian has also dedicated himself to philanthropic works in Nanchang.  To support the needs of the disabled children and local orphans, Cherian and his wife Camilla co-founded the volunteer group Nanchang Cares4Kids with other international Ford families. The group has organised many activities involving JMC employees, university/college students and volunteers from all walks of life, to visit Jiangxi-based orphanages and schools for children with special needs.

“It is an honour to receive the ‘Lushan Friendship Award’, which also belongs to my colleagues at JMC,” he said. “There are increasing numbers of expats who have come to Jiangxi recently. We live here, work here, and many of us are raising our children in Nanchang. I really appreciate the effort made by the municipal government in terms of providing convenience for international families. I am confident that more and more of them will have a very pleasant experience in their new home in Jiangxi.”

Entitled as one of the ten industrial bases of the Poyang Lake Green Economic Development project, JMC’s capacity and profit growth has been increasing rapidly, bolstering the company’s competitiveness to become one of the most robust auto brands among Ford’s global development strategy.
