MELBOURNE, Australia — Almost 30 Marketing team members volunteered in a project to restore the Alma Doepel, a 1903 classic three-masted topsail schooner at the Docklands on July 19. The ship is being restored to once again deliver sail training as part of Alma's youth development programs.
The Marketing Team’s task was to scrape out caulking between the old wooden planks as part of the restoration. The Alma Doepel restoration organisation requested the team to source a specific hand tool to scrape out the caulking, as they only had two. Steve Lowe, coordinator of the Marketing volunteering team, approached the Broadmeadows Tool Room, who were more than happy to make up the special tools required.
The Marketing team also made shelving so that the Alma Doepel Restoration team could safely store the removable parts of the historic ship that have been taken off and are awaiting restoration.
In another part of town, 18 team members from PD volunteered at the Salvation Army Westcare Camp Bambara facility, helping out with ground maintenance at the Camp which is still recovering from the Black Saturday bushfires.
