DEARBORN - I have been active with Fairlane Sunrise Rotary in Dearborn since 1983. One of my club’s first projects was the construction of a playground for Starfish Family Service. Since then, I have personally and as a member of Rotary, been involved with many projects for Starfish.
For those who may not be familiar with Starfish, they are an organization that focuses on early childhood development. Their goal is to prepare young children and their parents/caregivers to succeed in school and in life.
This year I coordinated an “Operation Warm” project for my Rotary Club. We joined with the Dearborn Rotary and the Dearborn Heights Rotary for the project.
Jointly we purchased new winter coats, hats and gloves for the Head-Start Children at Starfish. In early November members of the three Rotary Clubs outfitted over 200 children at Starfish with their new winter outfits. This indeed was the highlight of the project – seeing the smiles on the children’s faces and knowing they will be protected for the winter from the weather.
I am looking forward to next year to repeat this project and help Starfish keep even more children warm. And, I do thank Ford to their on-going support of my involvement with Rotary.
