Cub Scouts Go Green with Can Recycling Drive

DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

LOUISVILLE - Last year, our Cub Scout Pack 305 was looking for a fundraiser and some educational programs.

We decided to start an aluminum can drive.  We fabricated a storage trailer, had a painting party, and parked the trailer outside of Our Savior Lutheran Church and School.

Last fall we solicited recycling containers from Waste Management and set them around school and workplaces.  Several containers are at Kentucky Truck Plant.

People at work, church and school have really responded!  We are filling the trailer a lot faster than we expected.

People drop off bags as they drive thru the car pool line.

It's great. The kids get to get dirty and stomp cans. They get a first hand look at the recycling process (so they will be more apt to follow suit later in life).

And they get rewarded with an opportunity to direct how their funds are spent.  So far they have helped the tornado victims in Henryville, Ind. and had a Blue and Gold Banquet.
