DEARBORN - At Ford Motor Company, successful diversity and inclusion efforts do not go unrecognized. Winners of the 2013 Global Diversity and Inclusion Awards were recently named and are being applauded for their ability to Go Further to bring diversity, inclusion and the One Ford commitment to life.
The recognition program, previously named Diversity and Inclusion Summit, began 13 years ago to provide an opportunity for employees to share best practices, recognize outstanding behaviors, and demonstrate the connection between diverse perspectives and our business.
To better showcase the efforts of our employees and reach a broader audience, the recognition program shifted from a single event held at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, Mich. to a global recognition format in 2013.
“The change to the Diversity and Inclusion Awards allows us reach a wider audience, share best practices and view D&I as an integral part of how we work together every day in a global economy,” said Lena Allison, manager, Diversity and Inclusion Office.
This year, employees nominated more than 500 individuals and teams from Ford operations around the globe. A global selection committee reviewed each nomination and narrowed the list down to 38 winners, representing 11 countries. The global selection committee is comprised of Corporate Award recipients from the prior year.
The 2013 Diversity and Inclusion Award winners were selected from each of the five categories aligned with Ford’s Diversity and Inclusion Strategy:
Leading the Way
Illustrates personal commitment to global One Ford leadership. This person makes a significant contribution to the team by fostering excellence, working together inclusively and role modeling Ford values in all interactions while holding people accountable for delivering results.
Leveraging a Diverse Workforce
Exhibits an understanding of the value of diverse teams and partnerships to capitalize on business and market opportunities, actively participating in attracting and developing a diverse workforce. The nominee may be involved in recruiting, serve as a member of a Personnel Development Committee (PDC), be active on an Employee Resource Group or Local Diversity Council, or any other employee group.
Fostering a Respectful and Inclusive Environment
Demonstrates Working Together behaviors by building a collaborative environment that inspires and involves employees and leverages diverse perspectives inside and outside of the team. This person encourages respect, open communication and recognition of the unique talents and perspectives needed to achieve One Ford.
Promoting Worklife Flexibility
Supports a global culture of flexibility and leverages technology and/or explores new ways that focus on results, not "face time," to get things done. This person fosters supervisor/team collaborations around flexibility in the workplace to find solutions that work for all.
Strengthening External Partnerships
Builds strong relationships with customers, dealers, investors, suppliers, unions/councils, communities, colleges/universities, etc., to help Ford work as one team. This person supports our corporate brand and talent pipeline efforts by their active participation in corporate citizenship, sustainability, education and sponsorship initiatives.
In addition to being presented with an attractive crystal award, individual and team award recipients also will be highlighted on @FordOnline beginning in December and continuing throughout 2014.
