The Application Development Virtual Engineering & Simulation Services (VESS) team and the IT Global Product Creation (GPC STAR) team have something in common: both believe that knowledge sharing and cooperation among teams are great One Ford behaviors and great ways to support the business.
The 2011 Pulse Survey results in Product Development highlighted the need to automate the backup of critical data that was residing on user machines. In the spirit of Go Further, the AD VESS team took on this assignment which had a very short lead time and identified a solution that would meet user needs. SyncBack Pro (not to be confused with Ford SYNC) was just the solution that the users needed. The VESS team was able to fast-track reviews and approvals through the TMC and EAA processes, while the GPC STAR team worked with Purchasing to come up with a favorable licensing agreement for the application, enabling prompt closure of the open PD action item related to Pulse Survey concerns.
“SyncBack Pro has enabled an essential capability to our CAE sections. Before this tool was available there was no standardized mechanism that provided automatic backups on our new PC workstation,” said Lloyd Bozzi, supervisor, Induction & Exhaust CAE, Powertrain Engineering. “This meant that in the case of accidental data loss there was no guarantee that data could be recovered.”
“With SyncBack Pro and the practices that our department has instituted, there are scheduled automatic backups that ensure that data can be recovered without relying on the users to remember to make manual backups,” Bozzi added.
Commenting on the project, Yuriy Kresnin, senior developer, VESS/Product Creation Line, said, “Prompt completion of the SyncBack Pro deployment project provided the increased value that the business expects from IT while also showcasing IT capability to be agile and lean.”
Teamwork, collaboration and diligence brought two teams together to resolve a key pulse survey issue for Product Development employees, providing a good example for moving the business forward with One Ford in mind.
