Chief Financial Officer Bob Shanks responds to ongoing questions regarding the company’s current stock price.

Q. Can you explain why our stock price remains at its current level?
A. It’s very important to recognize that there are a broad set of factors that contribute to today’s stock price. We are in a cyclical business, we have broad exposure to the present uncertainties facing the European market and our profitability is viewed as being overly dependent upon the strength of the North American market.

With our One Ford plan, of course, we are working to improve our business by addressing the challenges we face in Europe while continuing to diversify geographically and offer a full line-up of best-in-class vehicles.

To help achieve this, we are continuing to make significant product and capacity investments, including in Asia Pacific. These are very important to our growth plans, but it will take some time until we fully see the returns from these investments.

It is also important to remember that we are still in the early stages of reaping the benefits of our One Ford plan, our road map to deliver great products, a stronger business and a better world with profitable growth for all.

Q. What will it take to see the stock price grow over time?

A. Again, we have to look at the overall global economy as well as continued progress on the One Ford plan. Analysts and investors will want to see stability in the global economy along with Ford showing earnings and cash flow momentum coming from all of our regions.

Three Ford Motor Company vehicles – the 2013 Ford Taurus, Ford Explorer and Lincoln MKS – earned a top safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These vehicles earned a five-star overall vehicle score in NHTSA New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) testing.
