Demand Rising for New Ford Focus as it Earns Top Safety Pick from IIHS and Highest Safety Rating from Euro NCAP
Ford could see the popularity of the 2012 Focus increase even more as it joins the growing list of Ford vehicles to earn a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Now, there are 12 Ford vehicles that have earned the award.

This week's IIHS announcement comes one day after Euro NCAP announced the new Ford Focus has earned a maximum five-star overall safety rating in its tests.

Increased Capacity Utilization Brings Greater Efficiency, More Jobs
In 2012, many Ford North American manufacturing plants will begin to increase their capacity utilization by operating around the clock with three shifts of employees working a total of 24 hours a day five days a week.

The strategy – which will eventually migrate to all of the company's powertrain, stamping and assembly plants – will enable Ford to maximize production, create new jobs, become more competitive and enhance job security for plant employees.

Ford's Global Expansion Starts with a Hollywood Avatar Working on Virtual Assembly Lines
As Ford is building new manufacturing plants in Asia and other parts of the world, the company's new Hollywood-inspired digital worker is building the first cars there to help ensure ergonomically safe workplaces and quality-built vehicles.

The new avatar was created using size and shape population data gathered from Ford assembly plants across the globe. By customizing these data, Ford researchers have created a manikin used in ergonomic assessments that employ motion-capture technology, the same type of technology that mesmerizes filmgoers in movies such as "Mars Needs Moms" or in games such as "Mortal Kombat." Motion capture is a technology that digitally captures movement, making nonhuman characters appear more lifelike.

Ford Provides $50,000 to Help Missouri Tornado Victims, Ford Employees Step In
The Ford Fund is donating another U.S. $50,000 to assist with hunger relief efforts in communities hit by tornadoes, bringing the total donations to Feeding America this month to $100,000.

Additionally, employees at the Ford Kansas City Assembly Plant, including employees with UAW Local 249, and local Ford offices are assisting with relief efforts in Joplin, Miss. An employee gate collection is expected to raise several thousand dollars in further contributions.

An innovation in computer-aided engineering (CAE) designed to streamline the cost and development of side airbags for front passengers won the top prize at the 2011 Global CAE Technical Innovation Awards held recently at the Ford Product Development Center in Dearborn with global access in Merkenich, Dunton, South America and Mexico.

Team members Nitesh Jadhav, Linda Zhao, Krish Aekbote and Kumar Mahadevan won the prestigious Executive Award for their project entitled "Pelvic Thorax Side Airbag CAE Development for Front Dummy."
