Ford and Microsoft Corp. are leading the way toward a more energy-efficient future by announcing a new solution that will make electric vehicle ownership easier and more affordable for consumers. The two companies are teaming up to implement the Microsoft Hohm™ energy management application for Ford’s electric vehicles. Ford is the first automaker announcing the use of Hohm, starting with the Focus Electric next year. Hohm will help owners determine when and how to most efficiently and affordably recharge battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles. It also should help utility companies manage the added demands of electric vehicles on the electric grid. To read the full article, click here. Related Material:
Ford announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell Volvo Car Corporation and related assets to Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Company Limited. The sale is expected to close in the third quarter of 2010, and is subject to customary closing conditions, including receipt of applicable regulatory approvals. The purchase price for Volvo Cars and related assets (primarily intellectual property) is $1.8 billion (U.S.), which will be paid in the form of a note in the amount of $200 million (U.S.), and the remainder in cash. The cash portion of the purchase price will be adjusted at close for customary purchase price adjustments relating to pension deficits, debt, cash and working capital, the net effect of which could be a significant decrease in the cash proceeds to Ford. Julius Marchwicki SYNC Project Manager Ford Motor Company Ford SYNC® reached another milestone earlier this month when the popular voice-controlled communications and infotainment system was installed on the two-millionth Ford Motor Company vehicle. Among Ford customers who have SYNC on their vehicles – and use its voice command features – 87 percent are satisfied with how the system operates, and 88 percent would recommend the purchase of a vehicle with SYNC to others. As part of Ford's continuing effort to engage customers, SYNC Product Manager Julius Marchwicki was made available recently for a live chat on thefordstory.com. Below are excerpts from that exchange. Q: How are you dealing with increasing policy concerns over distracted driving? Q: Is Ford planning to allow the average developer to write and sell apps for Ford vehicles that are run from SYNC or similar computing capabilities in the vehicle, like people can do now for iPhone, Android, and the like? Q: Can you talk a bit about what you see as the future of voice-activated navigation/communication? To read the full Q&A, click here. Related Material:

Ford Brazil once again won the Lotus Award in two categories, "Brand of the Year in Semi-Heavy Trucks" and "Semi-Light Truck of the Year," for the leading sales of the F-350 in 2009. The model, available in two versions, with simple or double cabin, was the most sold in the segment from 2.5 to 6 tons, with 2,412 units in the wholesale market. The Lotus Award is one of the most important recognition of the Brazilian commercial vehicles, by faithfully reflecting the customers' preference in different segments. The category of semi-light trucks was created by the National Automobile Manufacturers Association (ANFAVEA) in 2001 and in the following year became part of the award. Since then, Ford has been the most successful, with six trophies for "Truck of the Year" and five for "Brand of the Year." To read the full article, click here.

There was nothing particularly remarkable about the silver, 1.8-litre, four-door Ford Focus sedan that rolled off the assembly line at Ford's plant in Chongqing, and yet this vehicle brought broad smiles to the faces of all Ford employees across China. What made the sedan significant was that it was the 500,000th Focus model built by Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Company (CFMA) since the vehicle's introduction to the China market in September 2005. The Focus has been a key driver of Ford's sales in the China market, and its popularity among Chinese consumers is growing. In January 2010, Focus saw its best-ever sales in the market of 17,151 units – up 78 percent year over year – followed by its best-ever February sales last month.
