LTP continues efforts to ‘Go Green’

DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

SAFETY AND THE ENVIRONMENT:

Working safe goes hand in hand with the environment. Make sure you wear the proper PPE – Personal Protective Equipment for the job you are performing. If you are using chemicals, have you read the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) to make sure you are using the right PPE?  Are there other safe use instructions that ensure your safety? What is the proper disposal method? What are the properties of the chemical? Is it corrosive or flammable?

This information and more can be found on the MSDS. Ford requires a Tox number for chemicals we use. Be sure you are using approved materials and label your containers with the Tox number, and product name for easy reference to information. Don’t work with unknown or unlabeled materials. Be aware of the materials in your department and make sure you have the proper information to work safely, for you and the environment.

ENVIRONMENTAL METRICS:

Livonia employees do a great job of “going green!” With your help our waste reduction targets are on the way to “Zero Waste to Landfill” by 2016.  Water usage is down as well. That’s the good news. However, oil usage is on the rise. We need everyone’s help with tracking down oil leaks and repairing them.
We had leaks totaling almost 700 gallons over the last month. That's literally oil and money going right down the drain. Take a look around your areas and see if there is something your teams can do to help. Are connections tight? Do any hoses need to be replaced? Do valves need repair or replacing? These minor things can be the cause of significant oil losses. So please, be on the leak lookout!

And take a look at how we’re doing with our metrics and also check out the “leak chart” to see how small water leaks for example, can contribute to waste.

METRICS THROUGH JULY:

Waste:     42% reduction over 2012
Water:    16.5% reduction over 2012
Oil/Hydrocarbons:   6% INCREASE over the same period in 2012

Again, thank you for all your efforts to help meet our metrics and keep Livonia “going green.” Keep up the good work!
