 LEP mission drives continuous improvement

​By now, most of you have heard about the Ford Production System and the company's efforts to standardize globally.

It's a monumental undertaking, and one LEP is embracing whole-heartedly. This week, FPS Team Leader Training began with the first group of D-35 Assembly participants. Employees will receive intensive training in a variety of subjects, including a day in the life of a team leader, in addition to modules on each of the SQDCPME operating systems.

The training is standardized globally, with flexibility to cater to each plant's needs. LEP Plant Manager Mike Felix has been an advocate for the FPS system since the beginning, and he stressed to the first group of trainees the importance of the FPS system in driving continuous improvement and sharing best practices.

A chief component of the FPS system is each plant's mission and vision statement. LEP's mission reflects the company's and the UAW's mindset on being the absolute best LEP can be. LEP's mission is "to be the premier global manufacturer of high-quality, low-cost engines exceeding customer expectations with a highly skilled and motivated workforce.

Accompanying the Mission Statement is LEP's vision statement of: Delivering vehicles, powertrains and components to our customers on time, around the world. The benchmark for high-quality, low-cost vehicles delivered in a safe and sustainable manner, by a motivated team that is focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement.

In short, it's being the absolute best we can be. It's working together to produce the highest quality engines Ford customers have come to expect. It's our mission. We live it. We breathe it. We own it.
