FLAT ROCK, Mich. – In preparation to build the Ford Fusion later this summer, Flat Rock Assembly Plant is training its 1,400 new hires using a simulated factory helping to prepare new hires for the front lines of the assembly line before the first U.S.-built Fusion rolls off the line.

Various members of the media, both local and national, attended a press event at the facility in late July to experience first-hand the types of training new team members undergo.

Participating media included:

Broadcast: ABC 7, Automotive News online show, FOX 2

“The 1,400 employees, which were hired for the domestic production of the 2014 Ford Fusion at the facility, spend about a week in a simulated factory to learn everything from what gloves to use on certain lines to attempting to master the tasks they may be performing on the line. Tasks range from tightening nuts and bolts to connecting brake lines, fitting weather stripping and fixing an alternator on an engine. . .”

“LaTasha Lucas started her job at Ford Motor Co.’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant on Monday, but it will be at least another week before she’s fully trained and ready to produce the automaker’s Fusion midsize sedan.

Lucas, a 31-year-old Detroiter, is one of 1,400 new hires at Flat Rock who are going through a week of training over a period of a few months in a simulated factory in the Flat Rock complex. It acts as a kind of tryout period before workers actually hit the factory floor. . .”
