The FPS umbrella (pictured on right) shows the standards used by FPS, as well as the incorporation of the different operating systems. Each operating system addresses a separate aspect of manufacturing and with the unifying processes, weaves them together to form an overall approach to our business.
One of the more significant changes FPS will bring to the floor is the addition of skilled trades members to certain work teams. All work teams will be given one of three designations; PWG, MWG, and MWT. A PWG, or Production Work Group will consist entirely of hourly production workers, generally in a repetitive assembly loop. They will be led by a team leader, who will have some increased roles and responsibilities, and will also be an hourly production worker. MWGs, or Manufacturing Work Groups will be assigned to areas that are highly automated, and will include production and skilled trades employees as on hand repair technicians. These teams will be led by either an hourly production employee or a skilled trades person. Finally MWTs or Maintenance Work Teams are made up entirely of skilled trades, led by a skilled trades employee, and exist to service multiple teams or areas.
All in all, most people won’t notice significant changes to the way they operate on a daily basis, but with success, we will all notice the results measured in profitability and long-term sustainability.
