The Lima Engine Plant Environmental Team has announced that the annual Earth Day event will be held Friday, May 2. Mark your calendars now!
Participants will celebrate Earth Day again this year at the Johnny Appleseed Parks. Employees and volunteers should meet at th ebig red barn (East of I-75 and just north of Ohio 81). Access the barn from Slabtown Rd. The address is 1582 Slabtown Rd. in Lima.
The day will begin at 8 a.m. at the barn and will continue until approximately 3:30 p.m. Lunch and a shirt will be provided as well as a lot of fun. Dress according to the weather; however, long-sleeved shirts and gloves are strongly encouraged due to "ivy friends."
Tools needed include shovels, garden rakes, scoop shovels and wheelbarrows. Participants will be planting small trees, cleaning the gardens around the office, cleaning up brush from around the lake, mulching and potting seedlings to make the park a happy and safe place. Weather permitting, participants may also be doing some staining, so dress in older clothing.
The event is part of the Ford Volunteer Program so be sure to sign up for it at: https://www.vws.ford.com and select "view volunteer projects" and select "Earthday" and then agree to the conditions of participations and hit register.
